Lino and vinyl floors
Some older lino and sheet vinyl has a paper backing that contains asbestos, and some older vinyl floor tiles contain it too. It often turns up when people lift old flooring in kitchens, laundries and bathrooms. The paper backing crumbles easily, which makes it friable asbestos, so it must be removed by a removalist holding the higher Class A licence.

Common questions
Does old lino contain asbestos?
Some does. Older lino and sheet vinyl can have an asbestos paper backing, and some older vinyl floor tiles contain it too. A lab test of a sample confirms it.
Why is lino backing a bigger job?
The paper backing crumbles easily, which makes it friable asbestos. Friable asbestos must always be removed by a removalist with the higher Class A licence.
